Mourinho refuses to apologise
April 30, 2009
Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho today refused to apologise for comments made earlier this season about his Italian rivals AC Milan and Juventus going to end the season trophyless.
AC Milan have has a recent resurgence in the league but still trail their rivals.
If I’m proved wrong and Milan end the season with the title, I’ll ask for forgiveness,” said Mourinho in response to claims from Milan’s Massimo Ambrosini earlier in the day that the Portuguese should apologise for what he said.
He also hit back at Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani’s claim that the title race would be closer if Adriano’s handball in scoring Inter’s winning goal against Milan in February had been disallowed.
“They say that without Adriano’s goal… well without many things the championship could have been very different,” added Mourinho.
“Coaches make mistakes just as do players and referees. And then there’s the injuries.
“You have to talk about everything not just what suits you. That derby could have finished three or four nil if Milan had finished the game with 10 men (Mourinho believed they should have had a player dismissed).
“They have to say that they won the first derby (1-0) in September due to a goal that was offside.
“They’ve had a penalty in practically every match they’ve played. If I speak, I’ll have to speak about many things and it’s not worth it.
“At the end of the season the best team always wins even if it’s a normal championship with human errors. There’s only a little while longer to wait, we’re not lacking very much.”
Ribery alerts clubs
April 30, 2009
Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery has alerted the top clubs around Europe’s to his possible availability in the summer as he admits he may be willing to leave the Bundesliga if Bayern fail to qualify for the Champions League.
He said: “It would be difficult for me to stay if we do not reach this goal.
“It is why the club must, at all cost, finish at least in second place.
“We want to win the league and it is still possible.
“But the priority of the club and of the coach is to make sure we finish at least in second place to qualify for the Champions League.”
Gerets to part company with Marseille
April 29, 2009
The poor relationship that coach Eric Gerets has with Marseille owner Robert Louis-Dreyfus means the coach will depart the club at the end of the season even though he has just led his team to the top of Ligue 1.
“Despite my work, there was a lack of gratitude and most of all a lack of trust,” Gerets.
“If I had been offered a new two-year contract with the same wage or a little bit more before the end of March, I would have signed immediately.
“He (Louis-Dreyfus) would have sent a strong message if he had told me as soon as January he wanted me to stay, while we were fourth in the league.”

April 29, 2009
Manchester City midfielder Elano is hoping for an extension to his contract. The Brazilian made a good impact last season but has found his first team opportunities limited this season.
“This is the end of my second season with City and if it were up to me I would be sat around a table discussing a contract extension right now,”
“I would love to renew my contract at City and remain here for a long time.
“I love England and I enjoy living in Manchester. I am very happy here.”
Niemeyer and Baumann in individual training
April 29, 2009
Only four of the five Werder players who missed Monday practice due to their routine yearly medical check-ups were back at team training on Tuesday. While Hugo Almeida, Sebastian Boenisch, Torsten Frings and Tim Wiese all returned, the fifth player midfielder Peter Niemeyer has been battling thigh muscle problems since Saturday.
“I felt something in the muscle during the game against Bochum and directly after it. Later I thought it was just a sore muscle. But it hasn’t gotten better since Saturday,” said Niemeyer. The defender was on the pitch just as long as his team-mates on Tuesday but just like Frank Baumann completed an intensive individual program with physiotherapist Stefan Wolters. Niemeyer did not however want to say if he could play against Hamburg. “I hope that I can be there on Thursday,” added the 25-year-old.
Returnee Frank Baumann, who missed the start of training this week, assumes that he can play in Thursday’s UEFA Cup semi-final first leg as long as he doesn’t have pain on Wednesday. Whether the captain will be around will be decided at the final practice.
