Burley Drafts In O’Connor
August 31, 2009
Scotland Boss, George Burley, has called up Birmingham City hitman, Gary O’Connor, for the forthcoming World Cup Qualifying matches against Macedonia and Holland after Kilmarnock striker, Kevin Kyle, withdrew from the squad due to injury.
The Killie frontman misses out after damaging a cartilage during his side’s 3-1 Co-operative Insurance Cup victory over Greenock Morton last Tuesday.
O’Connor, who has won 15 caps for his country and scored on four occasions, joins a squad that are eager to bounce back from their 4-0 humbling against Norway earlier this month. Ideally, six points are needed from next month’s double-header if the Tartan Army are to have any hope of reaching the Play-offs for the final stages of the competition to be held in South Africa next year.
Italian Pays Tribute To Celtic
August 31, 2009
After finalising his £1.5million move to Serie A side Bari at the weekend, former Hoops’ midfielder, Massimo Donati, thanked his former employers and their supporters for his time spent at the Glasgow side.
Donati signed a four year contract with the club from his homeland but left Scotland on a positive note:
“My relationship with Celtic has always been excellent…I’ll miss playing in Scotland. The league is more physical and the Italian league is obviously more technical. But what I will miss most of all is the fantastic supporters and the atmosphere they create at games. We can learn a lot from them in Italy.”
The Italian midfielder made 31 appearances for the Hoops, netting on 3 occasions. He should be available for selection for Bari’s trip to Palermo in a fortnight’s time.
