Roma open Russian negotiations.
November 30, 2009
Russian forward Roman Pavlyuchenko’s agent will fly out to Rome tomorrow to negotiate a deal with representatives of A.S. Roma in an attempt to seal a January move for the out of favour Tottenham Hotspur forward.
Pavlyuchenko has become disillusioned with his lack of playing time at White Hart Lane, with the ex-Spartak Moscow forward behind Robbie Keane, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch in the pecking order.
The Russian has been limited to infrequent substitute and Carling Cup appearances.
A.S. Roma’s interest has been long-standing, but it was expected that Zenit Saint Petersburg were to be the most likely escape route for Pavlyuchenko, given the Rome clubs financial insecurity.
It would appear, however, that a deal is possible to take Pavlyuchenko to Italy, even if Spurs manager Harry Redknapp insists he won’t allow his forward to leave cheaply.
Should tomorrows talks fail to yield a positive outcome, A.S. Roma will switch their attention to out of favour Bayern München forward Luca Toni, or long-term target Sergio Pellissier, of Chievo.

Fergie returns for Japanese ace.
November 30, 2009
Reports in Italy today suggest that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is set to firm up his long-standing interest in Catania’s Takayuki Morimoto.
Ferguson is well-renowned as a keen admirer of the Japanese international and will make an attempt to snatch him away from Gli Elefanti in January.
Morimoto’s stock has risen quite significantly over the past 18 months, becoming an integral part of new coach Gianluca Aztori’s plans.
He has contributed three goals this season and has caused problems to many of Serie ‘A’s best and most accomplished defenders.
Despite the obvious wealth of Manchester United, they will not find it easy to tempt Morimoto away from Sicily. He is well adored at Catania, while Chairman Antonino Pulvirenti understands the players value, not only due to his ability, but also the marketing opportunities such a high profile Japanese player offers.
Morimoto became the youngest ever player to appear in the J-League, when he made his debut for Tokyo Verdy 1969 aged just 15.
