2006 World Cup Champions Match Fixing?

September 3, 2008

Since Italy won there first world cup they have been accused of match fixing, why is always Italy that are subjected to these claims? Maybe it is because other neighbouring countries are jealous of Italy’s success. A new book being published today titled
“The Fix” claims that the Italians fixed 2 of there matches during there 2006 world cup campaign.

One of these matches would have to be the Australia Vs Italy match, when Italy was awarded a penalty from a controversial slide tackle which they won the game from. Many believed the Italian dived, but I believe it was the referee’s decision and the Italians took it as it came whether it was good or not.

Marcello Lippi told the Press: “It all seems strange to me that such a discussion has come out so late,” said Lippi.

“Usually when there are big victories these things happen before. I remember the same thing happened back in 1982.”
