Mancini linked to Nigeria role.

Out of work Italian manager Roberto Mancini could be offered a surprise route back into football.

The Nigerian Football Association are said to be considering the possibility of offering him the reigns for the Nigerian National team to lead them into the summers World Cup Finals.

Shaibu Amodu is currently on the Nigerian bench, but doubts persist over his managerial qualities and experience. His future could be decided in January, if Nigeria under-perform at the African Cup of Nations.

With the World Cup been held in Africa (South Africa), many of the African representatives feel they can go far in the tournament and Nigeria are no exception. For that ambition to be fulfilled, Nigerian officials feel a high-profile manager needs to be employed and Mancini is the leading candidate.

Mancini finally terminated his contract with Internazionale three months ago, where he won three consecutive Scudetti. He has been frequently linked to English clubs Liverpool and Manchester City, as well as Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg.
