Bundesliga Weekly Review

Day 2 of the seasons started with a shocking 0-0 in Hanover. Shocking not only because of the result but even more so because of the poor football. Hanover unable to deal with the pressure and Cottbus unwilling to let go of the defense. The result was a game without (m)any chances and lots of whistles on this rainy night in the AWD Arena.

Two title challengers met in Bremen. After a goalless half, Werder took the lead through Frings which was equalised by new international Westermann, a bit lucky for Schalke which fans celebrated the draw as a victory. Diego returns this week to the Bremen squad. werder has only two points after two games, disapointing for the Northern German side.

After the impressive display away at Bayern Munich last week, Hamburg needed lots of luck to win the match against Karlsruhe in a last gasp winner in overtime. New signing Petric came on as a substitute. Karlsruhe caused alot of trouble for the uninspried homeside and was unfortunate to walk off as the loser of this match.

Stuttgart made an impressive start last weekend but as great as their performance was in Mönchengladbach, as poor was their display against Leverkusen. Bayer completely deserved the win and finally won the first three points after having lost the opener very unluckily to Dortmund. Labbadia was happy. Helmes scored his second goal of the season. Völler very impressed with the new striker who joined Bayer from rivals Cologne.

Berlin was almost shocked that they did not manage to win this game that they have dominated all through the ninety minutes. Former Hertha striker Wichniarek scored on Bielefeld’s only chance. Hertha had to pay the price for not using more of their plenty oportunities. Ebert on Berlin’s side was impressive just as the three goals that Wichiniarek has already scored.

The top match of the day was Dortmund against Bayern. The game ended in a 1-1 tie, not enough for the hosts as they took the lead early and also were one man more on the field after van Bommel’s red card. A second half equaliser by Borowski saved Bayern and avoided the total let down for the champions. Klinsmann still has a lot of work left to be done.
Meanwhile Rummenigge hit out at Cologne to finally stop their public talk about their desire to buy back Podolski.

The wonder team from Hoffenheim continues with its fairytale. Another three points against weak Mönchengladbach see them take the top spot of the league. Hoffenheim’s coach Rangnick was happy with the game but not with the result as Hoffenheim could and should have won with a bigger margin. Gladbach disappointed and was lucky to get away with the 0-1. Shooting star Marin was their only inspired player on the field.

Bochum was angry after walking off the field with a 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg. After having lead the game by 2-0, the Volkswagen team managed to come back into the game and was even closer to win the match in the end than Bochum. Wolfsburg that invested alot of money before the season had its best player in Saglik who caused alot of danger for Bochum who are sad to have given away the win on their home pitch.

Cologne drew Frankfurt in a horrible match 1-1. Out of the blue, Cologne’s Novakovic scored the 1-0 lead for the western Germans. Only five minutes later, they were awarded a penalty but Antar missed. After the break the 50.000 fans saw only a single shot on the end which resulted in a goal that allowed Eintracht to take a point back home. Two helpless and highly uninspired teams are now looking for their first win of the season on the next weekend.
