Werder Bremen Sign Marko Marin

German international Marko Marin will transfer to Werder Bremen starting on 1 July 2009. The Borussia Mönchengladbach player has signed a four-year contract with the Green-Whites until 30 June 2013. Bremen manager Klaus Allofs confirmed Wednesday afternoon the agreement with Borussia Mönchengladbach on the transfer of the 20-year-old. Neither club released details about the transfer.

“We are happy that we were able to bring Marko to us already this summer. He has developed very well in the past couple years. He will find by us the best conditions to take the next step in his career,” said Klaus Allofs.

Head coach Thomas Schaaf also expressed his happiness about the agreement of the negotiations. “He is one of the biggest talents in German football and it speaks for Werder that we were so active in working out a transfer. Marko is a very young player who already has some success to show for himself. Now we want to bring him along and continue his development. We are convinced that he will be an important player with us,” said Schaaf.

Marin is currently with his future Bremen team-mates Mesut Özil and Sebastian Boenisch at the U21 European Championship in Sweden. Marin said he was relieved about the news of the transfer. “I am very happy that the transfer worked out and now I can concentrate on the U21 European Championship semis against Italy on Friday. I would like to help Werder reach their goals in the next few years and prove myself in the Europa League,” said Marin.
