Greed seems to be killing what we call the beautiful game

September 8, 2008

There is no longer any love for playing football or any loyalty from players, managers and agents alike.

These days they go where the money is not where the football is, they later find out that this isn’t always the best option.

Take Scott Parker he left Charlton Athletic to go to Chelsea he may then have been a premiership player earning much more money than when he was at Charlton Athletic, but he wasn’t happy sitting on the bench at Chelsea.

Scott Parker is an ambitious young man who has always wanted to play football but he still let money get in the way of what he loved doing.

The recent sagas between Newcastle United and Kevin Keegan and West Ham and Alan Curbishley have shown how many managers have been undermined by the boards.

Football managers are paid to manage a team so they therefore should have the only say on what happens to their team.

The owners and directors of football should stick to the responsibilities and duties they have and leave all the managerial side to that of the manager.

Why should they have players sold over their heads? How fair is that?

The final straw for Alan Curbishley was when George McCartney was sold to Sunderland.

I think the rules within players moving clubs and the treatment of managers should change.

Managers should be given a season to right any wrongs that they may have.

I think that contracts within football for managers and players alike should actually mean something, they should be like me and you??.

If I found myself a better job, that paid better and it would be a better career change for me I would have to give my current employer four weeks notice.

I think these managers put up with another pressures in winning the matches and keeping the team in line, without having executives and other directors getting involved in the buying and selling of players.

I always thought the managers who chose the team would therefore choose the players they need in, as they know what’s missing in their team.

Greed has now changed this within football and I think this should change otherwise what will happen to the beautiful game??.
