Rangers’ striker Kris Boyd might well be pulling on a Birmingham City shirt before too long after the English Championship side claimed that the Glasgow club had accepted an offer for the prolific striker. A Birmingham source stated: “I’d be 75% certain that Kris Boyd will be a Birmingham player by the end of the week.”
This may be news to the Ibrox outfit with Chairman David Murray denying that any fee had been agreed: “Birmingham have made an enquiry, we talked about money but we haven’t agreed a fee.”
It is believed that the Blues have already had an offer in the region of £3million rejected but that an improved attempt to prize away Rangers’ top goal scorer could force last season’s UEFA Cup Runners-Up to part with Boyd.
The move would see the 25-year-old striker reunited with former Rangers’ boss Alex McLeish, the man who brought him to Ibrox from Kilmarnock in January 2006.
Boyd’s goal scoring record speaks for itself. He has found the back of the net 91 times since moving to Govan. He currently stands at the top of the SPL scoring chart with 18 goals already this season.
The player was the subject of controversy in October when he elected not to play for Scotland again until there was a change in manager; citing a lack of opportunities for his decision.
The switch would see Boyd join a club currently in second place in the English Championship and eager for promotion to the Premiership. It would be interesting to see whether or not a man that many have described as a “goal scoring machine” would be able to transfer his impressive record into, potentially, a much higher level of football.
