Anderlecht earn crucial victory

Anderlecht earned a 2-1 victory over Excelsior Mouscron on Friday to keep pressure on early pacesetters and defending champions Standard de Liege.

Anderlecht, who dominated Belgian football in the 90s and early 2000s, took the lead through Boussoufa after 29 minutes and Chatelle converted a penalty kick to make it 2-0 seven minutes after the break.

Excelsior pulled one back in the 70th minute through Walter Baseggio, but Anderlecht held on for a crucial victory.

Anderlecht now have the same amount of points - and a better goal record - as Standard, who do have a chance to restore their advantage as they visit Cercle Brugge on Sunday.
