Leixoes still top in Portugal
November 17, 2008
Leixoes Matoshinhos beat Sporting Lisbon on Saturday and remain in first place in the Portuguese Liga Sagres, while Benfica are the only side able to follow thanks to a narrow win over Estrela Amadora on Sunday.
Sporting hoped to catch up with leaders Leixoes in Portugal’s capital city but instead, the season revelations scored the only goal through Roberto Sousa on 66 minutes.
Benfica only needed one goal as well to push aside Estrela Amadora. The decider came from Sidnei in the 50th minute.
Leixoes have 19 points from eight games, and only Benfica have managed to stay near as the Lisbon side have only one point less. The nearest rivals follow at another four points.
