Milan draw on Beckham debut

The public and AC Milan boss Silvio Berlusconi were finally presented on Sunday night what they and the Italian Serie A have been waiting weeks for:

The recently-nicknamed “Six-star team” of Kaka, Ronaldinho, Pato, Clarence Seedorf, Andrea Pirlo and David Beckham all started together on the pitch of Stadio Olimpico in front of 49,000 spectators. The 18th game day was game one of the uncertain liaison between AC Milan – Werder’s next opponent in the UEFA Cup – and the three-month loan Beckham.

“It’s hour X for Beckham, who can finally prove what he can do,” said the Tuttosport newspaper before AC Milan’s away game at AS Roma. And the capital club refused to be just a role player in grabbing a 2-2 draw after both Roma’s Mirko Vucininc and Milan’s Alexandre Pato scored two goals each.

Beckham lasted until the 89th minute. With the draw, the former English captain’s new club remained in third place with 34 points, behind Juventus Turin (1-0 against Siena, 39 points) and city rivals Inter Milan (1-1 vs. Cagliari, 43 points).
