Ranieri urges caution for Juventus

November 6, 2008

Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri has urged his side not to get carried away despite securing their spot in the Champions League knockout stage with a stunning win in the Bernabeu on Wednesday.

A double from veteran forward Alessandro del Piero was enough to secure a 2-0 victory, completing a double for Juventus over Real Madrid in the space of just two weeks.

“To have already secured a place in the next round is a fantastic result,” said Ranieri. “But now we will do everything to make sure we finish top of our group.”

Juventus qualification is already secure, but Madrid could still snatch top spot if the Italian side falter against Zenit St Petersburg and Bate Borisov in their last two group games.

“Our intention is to take it one game at a time,” said Ranieri. “That is what we have done since I arrived to the club this summer.

“So far it is working. Against Real Madrid my players have given a fantastic performance.”
