Arshavin A Gunner

February 3, 2009

Andrei Arshavin’s proposed move to Arsenal has been finalised with the Russian internationalist signing on at the Emirates for the next three-and-a-half years.

Arshavin, who passed a medical at the London club on Monday, is now in line to make his Arsenal debut against local rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premiership on Sunday.

Zenit spokesman Alexei Petrov confirmed that the deal had been completed:

“Both clubs have managed to complete the deal. Arshavin will play for Arsenal from now on…The conditions of the contract are very favourable for Zenit…The value of the deal is much more than £12million.”

The conclusion of the transfer brings to an end the much prolonged speculation over the player’s future which stemmed from his impressive performances for Russia at the European Championships last June.

It is believed that Arshavin will don the No.23 jersey for his new club; a number that Spurs’ fans will hope to see very little of should the Russian be included in the Arsenal squad for the trip to White Hart Lane at the weekend.

Surely “Russian internationalist” is not proper English? Should it not be Russian International? …. The words proof read come to mind…

Got something to say?
