The January transfer window has swung open, giving football clubs the opportunity to buy and sell players for the first time since the end of August.
Manchester City boss Mark Hughes seems to have been linked with every player in England, and is expected to sign his first player in the next couple of days. Jermaine Defoe has been heavily linked with City, however they may face stiff competition from Tottenham who reportedly wish to re-sign the 26 year old striker.
Another player who looks set to leave his current club is Roque Santa Cruz, another of Mark Hughes’ targets.
Emile Heskey has also faced speculation linking him with Aston Villa and former club Liverpool. Heskey is out of contract in the summer so Wigan could look to cash in on him in the next couple of weeks.
The window shuts later than usual this year due to the 31 January falling on a Saturday. Clubs have until 1700 GMT on Monday February 2.
