England Hopefuls

Gareth Barry is the latest person to come out and back Ashley Young and Gabby Agbonlahor for England call-ups, but who else might be in the frame for the next international friendly?

Fabio Capello has already indicated he will use the non-competitive matches before the World Cup qualifiers resume in April to try out budding stars of the future.
With the actual finals being held in the summer of 2010, it’s likely many of today’s potential stars will be in full bloom by then.

After instrumental parts in Villa’s good start to the season, the attacking pair of Young and Agbonlahor have been touted for England places by many. From across the professional game and fan forums by not only those involved with their club. Speedster Agbonlahor is joint 2nd top scorer in the league at the moment, and the former Watford winger Young was the Premier league’s last player of the month.

Barry has had a return to the international scene over the last year or so, and talking about it also said “Hopefully their chance will come because they deserve it. The England manager will know the Germany game is a great chance to see players like Ashley and Gabby.”

Other players who will be looking for either a recall, or their first chance for the three lions might well be not be from the expected places. Hull’s Micheal Turner, Blackburn’s Stephen Warnock and Boro’s Ross Turnbull have had good starts to the season.

englandSome of the under-21 team will also be hoping for a taste of full international football, with James Milner and Micah Richards at the front of the queue.

A number of players who have had call ups in the past year but not managed to claim a regular place in the squad or team are Jimmy Bullard, Darren Bent, Michael Owen, Jonothan Woodgate and Phil Jagielka. All of these will be hoping to get another chance to impress the selectors and their chief Capello.
