Youth given a chance in exciting squad
November 16, 2008
A different squad, not weak, definitely exciting.
Fabio Capello has called up some expected inexperienced faces to the England Squad to face Germany in Berlin on Wednesday.
The biggest surprise was the inclusion of Michael Mancienne of Chelsea, who hasn’t started a game for the Blues but has impressed for the U-21s and on-loan at Wolves.
Other young players who have done enough this season to tempt Capello into taking a closer look are Micah Richards, and Aston Villa trio Cutis Davies, Gabby Agbonlahor and Ashley Young.
There areĀ also regulars in the squad in the form of James, Terry, Barry, Lampard and Gerrard who will look to add the experience to the camp.
There have been re-calls for the likes of Carson, Carrick, Downing and Bent who will be looking to prove they can swim - rather than sink in the national team.
The Italian coach has said that he will likely give two of the young stars a start, and blend them with a strong team.
