Abu Dhabi United Buy City
September 5, 2008
The blue moon is rising after the £200 million takeover of Manchester City by the Abu Dhabi United Group which has transformed the club forever more and a bright future appears to be on the horizon.
Not many people will begrudge their long-suffering fans their day in the sun, apart from maybe their near neighbours in the red half of the city, as Manchester City have become a major player in European football overnight.
Eastlands has become ‘Middle-Eastlands’ as the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal could now be seriously threatened for those all important Champions League places.
Dr Sulaiman al Fahim is fronting the group and seems to be playing his own version of fantasy football as bids for Berbatov, Villa, Gomez and Torres if rumours are to be believed were lodged on transfer deadline day.
They did manage to bring in one major signing, snatching Robinho for a British record £32.5 million from under the noses of Chelsea as a signal of intent.
With billions of pounds to spend Mark Hughes can turn the top four into a top five and if he turns City into the most successful side in Manchester he will go a long way to fulfilling the ambitions of the new owners.
They want Champions League football next year and to be challenging for the title in three years time and have drawn up a list of players they intend to bring to the club that would cost an astronomical sum.
But what do they have to worry about, with an estimated £500 billion in the bank, Manchester City could become the biggest club in the world and who would have thought that when they were languishing in the third tier of English football a few years ago.
Whatever happens in the future, it’s certainly never dull being a City fan.
