Arsenal Update: Walcott Injured - Gallas Lashes Out

November 21, 2008

Following their 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa, Arsenal’s troubles have continued to surface with the injury of several key players along with the recent evidence of in-fighting which captain William Gallas has brought to the public’s attention.

Perhaps the most significantly damaging blow to Arsenal is the loss of Theo Walcott for a minimum of three months. The speedy winger dislocated his shoulder during training on international duty for England leading up to their midweek game against Germany. While England’s Football Association has wage compensation available to teams whose players are injured playing in international fixtures, Arsene Wenger has not yet decided if he wishes to pursue it.

News emerging from Arsenal has indicated that Kolo Toure has also joined the lengthy injury list. “Kolo Toure is a major doubt… He got an injury on his calf with Ivory Coast. But apart from him and Adebayor, who flies in tonight and I have not spoken to, everybody is OK.”, coach Wenger was quoted as saying, via Arsenal.com.

Fortunately for Wenger, he will finally have some good news on the injury front, as Croatian international Eduardo will be back to training next week. His last game for Arsenal was in February against Birmingham City, where he sustained a broken fibula and dislocated ankle following a horrific tackle.

Next in Arsenal news, it appears William Gallas’ frustrations have boiled over, as he has made public some disappointing news from the Gunner camp. Of his complaints, he noted that he feels that one particular player on the team has been unsettling to the rest, and while he refused to name names, he did mention that the player was ‘six years younger’ than the 31-year-old captain. The comments made have sparked some backlash from the fans regarding the quality of his captaincy – a question not being asked for the first time.

Lastly worth noting, young starlet Aaron Ramsey got his first start for his international senior team Wales on Thursday. The 17-year-old is considered by some to be the next great footballer from Wales, following in the steps of well-known players such as Craig Bellamy and Ryan Giggs, who are each in the autumn of their career.
