Arshavin Spurs deal under threat?

Andrei Arshavin’s proposed transfer from Zenit St Petersburg to Tottenham Hotspur may be set to collapse after reports suggested the London club are unwilling to meet the £20 million price tag placed on the forward’s hear.

Arshavin’s agent Dennis Lachter denied that the asking price had been lowered. It was thought that the money received by the London – based club from the sale of Dimitar Berbatov would be used for the Russian playmaker’s purchase, but no deal has yet been signed between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur for Berbatov.

Arshavin has expressed a desire to play in England, but it is believed clubs in both Spain and Italy are monitoring the situation closely.

Spurs left Berbatov out of their team for yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to Middlesborough, fuelling speculation he will join Man Utd before the end of the transfer window.
