Two wins in a row last week had Christmas coming early at Tottenham. Peter Crouch opened the scoring at Ewood Park last Saturday in the 46th minute with an excellent header off the woodwork. With nothing much to do in the first half for Spurs keeper Gomes, he had plenty on his hands in the second. Despite the hard work of Blackburn, they couldn’t equalize but gave some good efforts.
In the 78th minute, Spurs thought they had cushioned their lead, but an offsides flag on Crouch ruled the goal out. They wasted no time in gaining that goal again, as nearly five minutes later Crouch struck again. It was that brilliant link up between Vedran Ćorluka, Jermain Jenas, and Peter Crouch that bagged all three points.
The win kept them in 5th on table, now with 33 points, and +18 goal difference. They still are two points outside the top four and will be hoping for a slip up by Villa or Arsenal next match day to regain the position.
“It wasn’t about a free-flowing performance,” Harry Redknapp explained after the match. “The conditions were difficult, we had sleet and snow coming down throughout the game and Blackburn worked very hard. They had one or two good opportunities as well and it wasn’t an easy game, it was a tough game and we ground it out. It’s a big win for us because Blackburn is always a tough place to go to. It wasn’t a classic, but everyone worked hard and it’s a big three points for us.”
Now they are off to Fulham on Boxing Day and then they host West Ham two days later.
