City board back Hughes

December 16, 2008

Manchester City Chief Executive Garry Cook has announced that they are fully behind manager Mark Hughes.
Cook insisted that he and the club’s owners - Abu Dhabi United Group - are backing Hughes to deliver at Eastlands. Despite the large funds available for Hughes, who already broke the British transfer record in bringing Robinho to the club, City have underperformed as of late and find themselves 17th in the Premier League.
Cook gave his full support to Hughes stating that “Mark is a very, very talented manager and we are pleased to have him at this football club, he has a lot of experience in the game and he knows exactly what needs to be done, and he knows what success looks that and we look forward to that success.”

Cook added that despite the enormous wealth available City would not be held to ransom over the price of players.  “We have a very clear plan and we are quite prepared not to bring any players in if we feel the situation is not right, we are quite willing to walk away if we feel the club is being taken advantage of,” he said.
