City’s injured Wing
October 22, 2008
Manchester City’s Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov, is likely to be sidelined until February.
Petrov will miss the next ‘three or four months’ of the season with a knee injury according to Blues boss Mark Hughes.
This is yet another injury blow to Hughes who has Micah Richards, Darius Vassell, Benjani, Michael Johnson and Valeri Bojinov all out at the moment. But one slight boost to City yesterday was hearing that Richards’ ankle injury is not as bad as first feared, the right-back has strained ligaments rather than suffering a break.
The City cheif told club website: “Martin went to see a specialist on Monday and will fly out to see the guy that did his anterior cruciate ligament to have it rechecked.
“The news is that it’s not his ACL this time, he’s got a tear in his meniscus that will need to be repaired.
“Although it’s good news about the ACL it’s still a bad injury and he will probably be out for three or four months.”
The 29-year-old, who made his last City appearance as a late substitute in the 3-2 home defeat to Liverpool, picked up the injury whilst on international duty with Bulgaria and now could not feature again until after the January transfer window.
With the new incredibly affluent owners, there is without much doubt new blood heading to the blue side of Manchester in the new year - Petrov’s predicted return date might be a temptation to venture in the player market, and what would that mean for the former Atletico Madrid man?
