Fabregas faces long wait in the sidelines

December 23, 2008

Cesc Fabregas won’t be pulling on his Arsenal Shirt for quite a while after rupturing knee ligaments in the weekend’s game against Liverpool. Fabregas could be out for upto 4 months after clashing with Xabi Alonso in a 50-50 challenge.

Arsenal have been linked with moves for a few players in January and manager Arsene Wenger admits this is now more likely.

“It is more likely but we also have internal solutions and we are not desperate,” Wenger said.

“I’m sure we can deal with it,” Wenger said. “When he comes back he can help us get over the line in the final months. I believe we are able to do it.”

Wenger has a big decision on his hands now as to who will take over as captain. Fabregas only recently took over the captaincy from William Gallas after his fall from grace. Manuel Almunia is the most likely candidate to lead the team out. The next game is Arsenal away to Aston Villa on Boxing day which is a must win for Arsenal as Villa look to get into the top 4.
