Fabregas shocks Arsenal Fans
March 5, 2009
Spanish Midfielder Cesc Fabregas has responded to rumours surrounding the possible departure of Arsene Wenger from Arsenal by saying that if his manager leaves he is likely to leave too.
Wenger has become a target for a number of top clubs around Europe and with growing unrest amongst the Arsenal support as a result of being out of anther title race already then the Frenchman could go.
Cesc said “I have heard the rumours about Wenger leaving Arsenal for the past three years.
“If he left the club then of course I would consider my own future and whether I would leave the club. I am happy at Arsenal and I believe that we and Barcelona play the best football in Europe. But Wenger is a main part of that.”
Fabregas has been out of contention with a knee injury sustained in the club’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool in December, but is convinced the can overturn their recent form to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
Fabregas added: “I want to return by April and i still believe that we can finish in the top four and reach the Champions League. But to do that the squad has to be united and fight in every match as if it were a cup final.”
Arsenal are currently in contract negotiations with Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott so any rumours about their captain and manager leaving is not likely to help negotiations.
