Fergie returns for Japanese ace.
November 30, 2009
Reports in Italy today suggest that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is set to firm up his long-standing interest in Catania’s Takayuki Morimoto.
Ferguson is well-renowned as a keen admirer of the Japanese international and will make an attempt to snatch him away from Gli Elefanti in January.
Morimoto’s stock has risen quite significantly over the past 18 months, becoming an integral part of new coach Gianluca Aztori’s plans.
He has contributed three goals this season and has caused problems to many of Serie ‘A’s best and most accomplished defenders.
Despite the obvious wealth of Manchester United, they will not find it easy to tempt Morimoto away from Sicily. He is well adored at Catania, while Chairman Antonino Pulvirenti understands the players value, not only due to his ability, but also the marketing opportunities such a high profile Japanese player offers.
Morimoto became the youngest ever player to appear in the J-League, when he made his debut for Tokyo Verdy 1969 aged just 15.
