Late Robbie earns Spurs crucial point

After heartbreak at Wembley, where Tottenham held Manchester United 120 minutes only to go out on penalty kicks, Spurs went into their next Premier League game with a confidence boost. Luka Modric provided the inspiration needed to get their side off to a flying start as they beat Middlesbrough 4-0. First on target was Robbie Keane, who scored his first Spurs goal since his return to White Hart Lane. Roman Pavlyuchenko was next to find the net and Aaron Lennon finished it off with two goals.

Within points of the top half of the table, they needed another win against Sunderland. However, nearly 3 minutes in, Sunderland opened the scoring through Richardson. Tottenham fought back and Darren Bent was given the best attempt on goal in the whole game. Unfortunately, he made a mess of it as he lifted the ball into the stands. Finally, within the last few minutes of the game, Robbie Keane was on target to score his second Spurs goal and end the match as a draw.

Since each side earned 1 point, Spurs now place in 12th and Sunderland 13th on the table. With the end of the season near, it is extremely important to stay well away from the relegation zone. Spurs, with 32 points, are still only 5 points away from the bottom three, but with another win they could be well on their way to the upper half of the table. Manager Harry Redknapp seems to believe that with at least 37 points they will be safe from relegation and looking towards a respectable end to the season.
