Liverpool have confirmed that defender Martin Skrtel has suffered damage to his posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the Merseysiders 3-2 in over Manchester City on Sunday.
The Slovakian defender was stretchered off after landing awkwardly following a challenge with Ched Evans as the City forward raced through on goal.
The injury is likely to rule Skrtel out fot he rest of the season, which is a major blow to Liverpool.
“Martin underwent a scan this morning which showed damage to the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee,” club spokesman Ian Cotton said.
“He will see a specialist on Tuesday to assess the extent of the injury and will then have an accurate idea of the timescales involved before he is back playing again.”
