Modric the Center of Attention

Tottenham’s Croatian, Luka Modric, has been greatly recognized for his tactical skill, amazing talent, and effort on the pitch. He has received many compliments the past year, and one of the most recent came from Sir Alex Ferguson after Spurs took Manchester United to Wembley for the Carling Cup final. Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp shared Ferguson’s comments with the media later the next week. Harry said, “Alex Ferguson said to me after the game that he thought Modric was fantastic. He (Ferguson) changed how they played because of him.”

Ferguson himself explained, “I took O’Shea off and changed our system because Modric was causing us so many problems.” However, that did not work to their best advantage as Modric continued to cause Ferguson’s men problems until the very end.

Harry Redknapp went on to add, “I think he could play for anyone, he’s that good. He’s a fantastic footballer, amazing player, and he’s got a great brain. Not only is he a great footballer, he’s strong, he works for the team, takes knocks and gets on with it.” He finished, “It’s alright having a team that can pass but sooner or later you have to give the ball to someone who can do something, like Man U with Ronaldo, Rooney, and Tevez. They have got people who can suddenly kill you and that’s important. Modric is that type for me; he is important.”

So, with that said, Luka will be one of the most important players on the pitch when Spurs face Chelsea at the Lane tomorrow. Chelsea have “re-invented” their form since Guss Hiddink arrived as their new manager. Spurs, however, are in excellent form themselves, and with Modric on the field, Chelsea will have some work to do if they are going to beat Spurs.
