No Spurs Exit for Roman
July 1, 2009
Roman Pavlyuchenko was brought to Tottenham as a ‘replacement striker’ for Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane. However, Roman didn’t get off to a good start as hoped. He seemed to struggle throughout the season and in the end it was rumored that the Russian would be on the ‘selling list’ for the summer transfer window.
Russian national coach Guus Hiddink advised Pav to consider every offer that comes his way this summer. Pav’s agent, Oleg Armetov, was interviewed in the Daily Mirror on the subject saying that he was indeed looking at Pav’s options for a move. However, Armetov later said that ‘it was taken out of context’ and that’s not what he meant. He now insists that Pavlyuchenko would be more than happy to stay at the Lane and play in England.
In another interview with the Sports Express he stated, “I was astonished to read the outcry on the internet as a result of the alleged interview I gave to the Daily Mirror. In fact it was a loose translation of my comment to the Newspaper Izvestia and the words were taken out of context.” Although, Armetov also explained that he has been looking at Pav’s options trying to find what is best for the player. There have been no direct offers for the striker yet, just reported interest. Though, it looks that Pav will spend another season as a Hotspur!
