Redknapp Thrilled With Croatian Trio
January 8, 2010
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is just delighted with the fact that he has three Croatian national team members, Luka Modrić, Vedran Ćorluka, and Niko Kranjčar, in his squad. Upon Modrić’s return from injury, it was speculated as to whether or not he and Kranjčar could both play in the same midfield. The pair insisted that they could, just as they do for Croatia and they were handed the opportunity in Tottenham’s FA Cup 3rd round match last Saturday and did a brilliant job as expected. Redknapp soon after the match complimented them on their hard work, and great footballing skills.
“Luka’s a super player and Niko’s in great form as well. He scored twice and the first was a great goal, a typical Kranjčar goal. He’s been fantastic since he’s been here. When I first took Niko to Portsmouth, Slaven Bilić (Croatian national coach) rated him very highly. We’d seen him and Slaven raved about him. Niko’s a fantastic lad and so is Modrić, both fantastic characters, they aren’t a minute’s problem. They get on with it. They have great football brains, great ability and Ćorluka is the same. The Croatians are a dream for any manager, they just love playing football,” Harry exclaimed.
“Luka and Niko play in-between the lines of the back four and midfield and they are so difficult to play against,” he continued. “They have that great ability to find space, to play a pass, to open teams up. They don’t stand out and get marked, they come in to positions where you can’t find them, in little holes, they do that so well. They were excellent on Saturday, two great footballers.”
With Aaron Lennon still sidelined with an injury, Modrić and Kranjčar will be first choice to start in midfield and Ćorluka will be back in the lineup. It will be the first time the three will start together for Tottenham if the game with Liverpool is not postponed due to weather.
