Santa Cruz signs new Blackburn deal
August 23, 2008
Blackburn Rovers have been handed a huge boost with the news that striker Roque Santa Cruz has signed a new four-year deal.
The Paraguyian forward has been strongly linked with a move away from Ewood Park this summer, with Tottenham, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United all rumoured to be keen to sign the former Bayern Munich star.
A statement on the club’s website, said: “Blackburn Rovers are delighted to announce that Roque Santa Cruz has signed a new four-year contract with the club, running through until 2012.”
Blackburn paid less than £4million to the Bundesliga club for Santa Cruz’s signature.
And the move paid off as Santa Cruz, who scored in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Everton, played 36 of 38 Premier League games last season finishing the club’s top scorer with 23 goals.
