Liverpool have been handed a major boost with the news that defender Martin Skrtel’s injury may not be as bad as first feared.
The Slovakian was thought to be out for the rest of the season after damaging his posterior cruciate ligament during Sunday’s thrilling 3-2 win over Manchester City.
However, scans have indicated that it will be possible for him to recover without the need for surgery, drastically reducing the expected time to recovery.
The injury does come at a bad moment for Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez, who recently succeeded in forming a solid defense with Skrtel and Carragher as key pillars.
