Spurs Lift First Trophy in Asia
August 1, 2009
Friday evening, Spurs sank Hull in the Barclays Asia Trophy tournament with 2 goals from Robbie Keane and a late finisher from Aaron Lennon. An early 16 minute opener off a pass from Luka Modrić, who was running the show from midfield, found Keane among others in the box and that’s how Spurs got off to a flying start. Both English teams continued to bombard one another with shot after shot until Defoe was taken out in the box by Warner and Spurs were awarded a penalty; in which Keane made no mistake from the spot. Aaron Lennon finished off the match with a late goal in the 87th minute and Spurs came away with pre-season silverware.
The lads played a superb game and fully deserved the win as they worked hard all the way through their stay in Beijing. After the match, Harry had some compliments for his team. He said, “The lads have worked hard and showed a great attitude in both games. I couldn’t have asked for more - they’ve been top class in the way they’ve behaved and the way they’ve played. They’ve been a pleasure to be with out here. It was great to come and win the tournament and play well against two good teams from the Premier League. It’s been well-organized, we’ve enjoyed the trip and it’s been good for us.”
After winning in 2007 with Portsmouth, smiling, Harry said, “Winning’s a good habit. It was great to come here and win but it’s all about what we do at the start of the season. That’s what really counts.”
Now, Spurs are off to Hong Kong for a last friendly in China on Sunday before they head home to London.
