The Ginger Maradona?

United failed to see off Zenit St Petersburg in Monaco as the Russians lifted the European Super Cup; Abramovich was present, so at least he got to see one blue clad Russian team lift a European trophy this year.

United fell behind on the stroke of half time to a poorly defended corner and Zenit’s advantage doubled after the break thanks to a superb individual effort from Danny.

In a moment of madness Paul Scholes saw red after a handball that Maradonna would be proud of. What was he thinking? Expect to see him in tomorrow’s papers with a hairdryer shaped bruise on his forehead.

On a more positive note, it is not possible to give enough praise to Carlos Tevez. Playing like a man possessed, the number 32 carried the team at times with his tireless work rate. Tevez always looked the most likely to score, the most likely to make a tackle, a cross or anything really. Some of the other players could learn a lot from his true United never say die attitude.

We need to get him signed on a permanent deal and soon, especially as SAF’s attacking options have been further depleted by Louis Saha departing for Everton; let’s just hope that David Moyes has good medical insurance at the Merseyside club.

I may be reading far too much in to this move, or could it really mean the freeing up the number nine shirt for a certain sulky Bulgarian?
