Title dream looks over but Reds will fight on

May 11, 2009

As the dust settles on Rafa’s fifth season in the Anfield hotseat I think it is time to reflect on a monumental season at Anfield which began under a cloud doubt as to whether Rafa would put pen to paper and has turned into Liverpools finest season since the beginning of the Premier League in 1992, and once more with a contract now running till 2014 their promises to be even more success on the horizon at Anfield. Bentitez has said he has every confidence in his squad and I think they have repaid his faith with a number of top drawer performances including the demolition of the champions at the theatre of dreams in March.

Having said that I would still expect two possibly three additions to the rafalution and one or two going in the opposite direction. With three games left and United odds on to take the title Liverpool can well afford to pat themselves on the back put this season behind them and be ready for kick off come middle of August with a renewed optimism that not only can they compete with the best but they have now shown that they have the capabilities to sustain this challenge. With 18 League titles and United soon to equal that record, one thing is for sure and that is Liverpool will not go gently into the night as regards United overtaking them on the title count.
