Two more years for Scholes

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has targeted another two years at the club before retiring in 2010.

The 33 year old ex-England International scored the goal that booked United’s place in Moscow against Barcelona, and proved a welcome influence on the United midfield after his return from injury.

Despite players like Owen Hargreaves, Michael Carrick and Anderson in the heart of United’s midfield, Sir Alex Ferguson knows all too well about Paul Scholes’ worth, and this could lead to a contract extension beyond his current deal.

“How long will I go on? I’d think two years at the most,” said Scholes.

“I have one year left on my contract and hopefully I’ll get another one but I suppose it all depends on how you’re feeling and how you’re playing.

“At the moment I just think two years would be about right.”

While many players seem to enjoy the celebrity lifestyle that goes hand-in-hand with being a professional footballer, Scholes is looking forward to be able to shy away from the spot-light once he hangs up his boots.

He added: “I can’t say that I can’t wait to finish but I am looking forward to finishing with everything that goes with it.

“I suppose people are just very invasive and are always wanting to know what you’re going to do.

“The only thing I will definitely miss is the football, not the general life of a footballer.”

Legend, 2 more years is enough for him to retire and not drag things out to where he’s awful but still playing.
