Yet another European double for Dimitar Berbatov saw United ease past their ‘North of the border’ rivals on Tuesday night. Celtic looked poor all night – not at all the test that we were expecting. United however put in another impressive European display to leave them at the top of Group E although equal on points with Villarreal.
It was the new edition to the champions that again took all the headlines again – Dimitar Berbatov who now has four goals in two Champions league games. I wonder if he ever regrets leaving two-point Tottenham? Somehow I don’t think so! One of the more seasoned United players, in the shape of Wayne Rooney is also in fine form for both club and country – this can only be beneficial for both parties. Rooney who added the third against Celtic is possibly United’s most valuable player this season so far especially as Cristiano Ronaldo has so far failed to recapture the form of last season that so captured the World’s imagination.
It could now be suggested that Group E is now pretty much over as far as qualification for the next round is concerned – United and Villarreal both have 7 points and great goal differences +6 and +4 respectively, whereas at the other end Celtic and Aalborg are both stuck on a solitary point each and the Scots are also yet to score a goal.
Berbatov and Ronaldo were both taken off in the second half, perhaps with the job done SAF turned half an eye to Saturday’s early kick off at Goodison, which is a must win in order to keep in touch with the top of the table. United’s next European outing is on November 5th- away to Celtic, let’s just hope for red fireworks in Glasgow as the Manc’s close in on the knockout stages.
