After Arsenals poor result against Hull at the weekend many feared they would let their heads go down but Wenger was a happy man last night after Arsenals best performance this season as they swept aside Porto 4-0.
Robin Van Persie scored his first European goal in a year getting 2 on the night as did Adebayor.
“The most important thing was to respond quickly in a convincing way to the game against Hull and that’s what we did,” Wenger said.
“We were focused and I was happy with the attitude,” he added. “Maybe we were too tense at the start of the game but we were focused and at this level that is vital.
“It’s difficult to measure our best performance of the season but this was maybe our most complete performance. This is half the response I want. The other half comes on Saturday against Sunderland. I expect to win the group after this.”
Wenger was particularly pleased with the performances of Fabregas and Walcott who looked threatening.
“I thought Fabregas was outstanding. He was good offensively and defensively. It was a complete performance,” Wenger said.
“Theo was dangerous again and is always improving.”
Wenger had stated there would be changes to the team that took on Hull at the weekend but in fact there was only one change with Nasri coming in for Eboue.
“I was tempted to make more than one change but I didn’t want to give the feeling that I was punishing one player more than another,” he said. “I wanted to give the team the chance to respond quickly. The change was not to punish anyone, it was because we needed to respond quickly as a team.”
