Boyd quits Burley’s Scotland

October 12, 2008

Rangers front man Kris Boyd has today revealed that he has retired from international football.

Boyd was an unused substitute in Scotland’s goalless draw against Norway at Hampden Park last night and told journalists in Scotland this morning that he will not be playing for his international side again. However Boyd did not rule out a return to Hampden citing George Burley as the sole reason for his departure from the international scene.

“I left a message on George Burley’s phone last night and he hadn’t got back to me,” Boyd told a Scottish radio station.

“I will not be playing for George Burley again, but I hope to be back in a Scotland jersey again one day.”

Kris Boyd has played just twenty eight minutes of international football under George Burley from a possible six matches.

Boyd is the second player to quit the Scotland set-up in recent times, following Lee McCulloch’s departure last month.

I’m not surprised Boyd is hacked off, because it does not make any sense why he is not getting a look in. But I think he will live to regret this outburst. It’s not as if Burley is the only one who doesn’t think he justifies a starting spot and he’s done himself no favours by throwing the toys out the pram.

Got something to say?
