Dundee United set for Fenlon Talks

January 6, 2010

Dundee United look to have stepped up their search for a new manager after being given permission by Bohemians to speak to their manager Pat Fenlon.

The Scottish Premier League club deny talks with the 40-year-old are subject to agreeing a six-figure compensation sum with the Irish outfit.

United chairman Stephen Thompson hopes to hold talks within 48 hours.

Bohemians honorary secretary Gerry Conway told BBC Scotland they would seek more than £250,000 from United.

Conway said Bohemians would not stand in his way if Fenlon, who has three years of his current contract to run, wanted to talk to the Tannadice outfit.

Fenlon has managed Bohemians since December 2007 and has guided the Dublin club to the league championship in each of his two seasons in charge.

Those titles took his haul to five, as he also won the Republic of Ireland’s top flight three times with Shelbourne in 2003, 2004 and 2006.

“We received a fax from Dundee United at 1000 this morning and have agreed to let them talk to Pat subject to agreeing a suitable compensation figure,” said Conway.

“We will not be rolled over on this.”

“We have a good relationship with Dundee United, dating back to when we played them in the 1980s in the Uefa Cup.

“They’re a very honourable club and I think they’ll do the right thing.”

However, Thompson insisted talks were not subject to agreeing compensation and also said other candidates should not be ruled out at this stage.
