Ferguson to return to action

October 16, 2008

Barry Ferguson had been set to make his return to action this week in a reserve match but it came just to early for the Rangers captain but he is on course to make a return to the reserves on Tuesday and could be handed a role in Rangers next match against Hamilton the following Saturday.

Walter Smith commented : “Ferguson is getting close now. He will have a full week’s training and, all going well, he will play in the reserve game on Tuesday.”

“The physios are working very hard with him and they have been stepping up his training and I hope that next week will be the start of the comeback for him.

“Barry coming back gives us more options. Some people might think it gives us problems in terms of who to leave out but we see it as a positive.

“We obviously have an idea of how the team is going to play, and once Barry comes back, it will give us an opportunity of working within that and see where we go from there.”

Ferguson coming back in from injury will be a huge boost for the Ibrox players and 2 more casualties are under consideration for a return on Tuesday. Whittaker and McCulloch are close to fitness after suffering knew injuries however Naismith has still not put a timeframe on his return.
