Rangers took the lead in the title race in Saturday with a win over city rivals Celtic, however a below par performance last night has left them trailing Celtic on goal difference after only managing a 1-1 draw away to Hibs.
Rangers looked dismal in the first half offering very little but a double substitution saw Nacho Novo and Kyle Lafferty brought on for the ineffective Steven Smith and Andirus Velicka. Rangers looked much more attacking in the second half but nearly got caught on the counter attack a few times. If it hadn’t been for hibs lack of composure in front of goal the game could have been out of reach.
Novo missed a few guilt edged chances as it looked like being one of those nights that Rangers were never going to put the ball in the back of the net. This was added to by the fact a goal was disallowed by the referee and linesman as they said the ball did not cross the line, even though tv pictures seems to show different.
Rangers eventually managed to cancel out Derek Riordans excellent goal in the first half with Nacho Novo sliding the ball into the net to make the last 10 minutes of the game very nervy.
Rangers were not able to take the remainder of their chances so have fallen to second in the table on goal difference. Rangers are playing the two teams they find it hardest to play against in the next two week and with it not effectively being out their hands, apart from scoring more goals which is still possible, they have to look to Celtic to see where they will drop points.
