Struggling La Liga side Recreativo Huelva have parted ways with manager Manolo Zambrano after a disappointing start to the 2008-09 season.
Zambrano joined ‘Recre’ in February, succeeding the sacked Victor Muñoz, but couldn’t make the required change at the club. Having ended last season in sixteenth place, they currently occupy the eighteenth spot after six games.
The final staw for Zambrano was Sunday’s 4-0 home thumping by Malaga, which has left the team deep in relegation trouble.
The 48-year-old, who hails from Huelva, had spent his career in the lower leagues before taking charge at Recreativo.
Zambrano’s replacement is reportedly Lucas Alcaraz, who previously coached the team from 2000 to 2003. During that time, Recreativo earned promotion to the top flight.
