“Ronaldo move not out of the question” – Schuster

October 14, 2008

Yesterday Real Madrid boss Bernd Schuster revealed that the Spanish champions have not given up their interest in Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese international was heavily linked with a move to ‘Los Blancos’ over the summer however their efforts were rebuffed by the Manchester club. But Schuster is determined to redouble their efforts this summer and secure the signing of the PFA Player of the Year.

“We must do everything possible as it would be worth it to have this player,” Schuster said.

“I think this year it will be a little complicated for his club to hang on to him.”

However the reputed €90 million price tag, United have placed on the winger, may prove to be a stumbling block. Again Schuster has dismissed this and believes that although the Spanish giants will need to pay a significant amount of money, it may be less than that figure come the end of the season.

“There is no other solution other than to make a large bid as they’ll not let him go on the cheap,” he said. “Next year the price could be a little lower.”

Sir Alex Ferguson though remains determined to keep the high profile Ronaldo, who scored over 40 goals last term. He warned Madrid that the outcome will be the same if they do bid again this summer. The same can be said for United close neighbour’s and bitter rivals Manchester City. The blue half of Manchester have recently been taken over by Abu Dhabi United Group and have a potential massive transfer fund to spend on players like Ronaldo. It remains to be seen however, Ronaldo’s status on a move away from Old Trafford, whether it be overseas or just a few miles away.
