Tony Adams has managed to secure the signing of Jermaine Pennant from Liverpool on loan until the end of the season.
Pennant has only featured 4 times for Liverpool this season but has been linked with a move to a number of clubs including the Spanish Champions Real Madrid.
“I’ve known him for a long time – we were together at Arsenal a long, long time ago,” said Portsmouth boss Tony Adams.
“He was a very exciting prospect. He’s quick and very technically gifted and he can have a go at defenders.”
“My preference is to stay at Liverpool and I am still hoping to do so. I do not want to leave,” Pennant said.
“I am happy to compete for my place here and hope that I am given the chance to do so.”
But now he has made the switch, Adams is looking forward to reuniting Pennant with a former Liverpool team-mate to good effect.
“I saw him play with Peter Crouch for Liverpool at Fulham last year and he was constantly getting past their left-back and getting crosses in for Crouchie,” he added.
Although Pennant is keen to stay at Liverpool it looks like his future will almost certainly lie away from Anfield next season.
