Wenger confident despite Arsenal 1st leg deficit
May 5, 2009
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confidently stated his team can recover from the Old Trafford defeat at the hands of Manchester United to progress on to the Champions League final in Rome.
Wenger stated his side will produce a ‘magnificent performance’ in order to advance at the expense of Manchester United to Arsenal’s second Champions League final in four seasons.
The Gunners boss was quick to point out the impressive league form Arsenal have been showing as late with their ongoing 21 game unbeaten streak, and he will also be buoyed by the news that his leading goal scorer Robin Van Persie has shaken off his groin injury and will be available for selection.
The last time the rivals met in north London was the 2-1 premier league thriller in November, which saw Arsenal emerge as the victors.
There is no doubt the young Arsenal side have the ability to overturn the one goal difference between the two Premier League sides, though United have been strong defensively throughout the entire tournament only conceding a total of 5 goals. The Red Devils will also be boosted by the inclusion of defender Rio Ferdinand in the squad who was a doubt after suffering a rib injury in the first leg.

The 2nd leg will be played at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday May 5th. KO 20.45.
