UEFA Cup Round up
Wolfsburg, Braga, Valencia, Aston Villa, Ajax and Hamburg are all through to the UEFA Cup knock-out stages after Thursday’s Matchday 4 results, but the party is over for five other clubs.
Wolfsburg, Braga and Hamburg all won to secure their progression but Valencia only needed to draw whereas Aston Villa’s loss couldn’t stop them from qualifying with a game to spare - Ajax did not even have to kick a ball tonight in the end.
The UEFA cup dreams of Portsmouth, Heerenveen and Slavia Prague were all shattered by defeats tonight which all conspired to decide the qualifiers from groups E and F, as Zilina’s shock win could not save them. Rosenborg also fell out of the running after only drawing at FC Copenhagen.
The final matchday in the UEFA Cup group stage will see English sides Villa and Man City both face a top of the group clash to take the honours, and Spurs elsewhere will aim to join them.
