Inzaghi back on Milan goal trail

October 24, 2008

Rossoneri made a superb start to UEFA Cup Group E as two goals in the first half sent them on their way to an impressive 3-1 away win to Dutch Heerenveen. Inzaghi, Shevchenko, and Kaka make the score line just like two years ago; however, things have changed a lot within two years.

Pippo has not had any luck in terms of injuries so far this season, as he has already visited the treatment room several times and missed most of the matches during 2008/2009 campaign. On the other side, he is lucky enough to score immediately when he is on the pitch. Last week, he scored his first goal in Serie A this season; and today, he captured his 64th goal in European club competition supplied by Gattuso, and reclaimed the title of all-time leading scorer. Furthermore, Super Pippo also helped open the score when Heerenveen midfielder Calvin Jong-A-Pin inadvertently headed an own goal due to his pressure.

The recent matches have not only witnessed the return of Ronaldinho, but also guaranteed the role of Kaka in Milan. He announced himself to be the focal point of Milan’s offense through his brilliant performance and the continued victories, the responsibility which he took since the 2006/2007 season owing to Shevchenko’s departure. This match is not exceptional. His pass, dribbling, and shoot is fantastic as usual, and his cross pass assisted Gattuso to score the second goal for Milan.

Although return hero Shevchenko tried his best to prove himself; he may be the last choice for the strikers by Ancelotti now. He provided several opportunities, even a shot just missed the post. But just as the matches he played before, he still cannot put the ball into the net. It is a nightmare for a striker without scoring, especially for Shevachenko in current Milan. Pato, Borriello, Inzaghi in addition to Ronaldinho and Kaka compete for the striker position, where is the seat of Sheva? Without rotation, he would be on the bench obviously. It seems that his performance cannot reach the requirement of high competitive matches now, so what the hell did Chelsea do to him?

The old trinity, a new story. Fortunately, the victory remains.
